5not bad, not bad at all....
By CEE
after looking at amazon and zappos for a while i came across this pair a few days ago and went for it. i think they're a brand new model for this brand as i haven't even seen this on their site.at first i was unsure about the sizing and construction, as they're made in china, but they're actually a pretty good pair of boots for the price - relatively lightweight, flexible and smooth, rich leather - the leather itself may fall just a bit on the thin side, but it's well-conditioned and seems fairly durable. they seem pretty true to size (perhaps a 1/4 size larger, but nothing a pair of insoles can't make up - plus more cushion).the best part is that there's really no break-in time. they're totally wearable out of the box. good inside padding makes for a good, supportive fit - they're easy on one's feet - pretty soft and comfortable. the rubber soles provide good traction, but they're not at all bulky or heavy like you see on some other boots with a similar look.as far as the color/texture goes, they're just a bit shinier than pictured here on amazon (not matte like they appear in the photo), but retain that same nice deep dark brown color.i guess i'll have to wear these for a few weeks to see how they turn out, but i'm happy overall with this purchase.decent price and pretty good quality.

4BED : STU Patriot
By Honest Review
First off I bought these at the 6PM(Zappos affiliate) shoe store, but only because they were cheaper there and had better pictures, my preference is Amazon. I'm assuming they come from the same supplier as Amazon, in either case it's sold out on the other site now so I'm writing my review here to hopefully help out.The first impression of the boot was that it's a little rough. What I mean by that is, the first thing I tried to do was unzip it to toss it on. It's not a completely smooth operation. One of the boots had the zipper crowded by the surrounding leather so that kept interfering, the other was just rather stiff and 'dry' taking a little effort to zip/unzip. You could take that as a hit and toss a little grease on the zipper, or you consider that intentional and assume it'll help the zipper stay up during normal use. I'm not sure what I make of it yet but I'm sure it'll loosen a little through normal wear. Second impression was the great leather used. It's so soft to the touch and almost buttery, like a nice designer leather wallet that's broken in. The inside is lined with a very basic mesh like any athletic shoes, just a very thin layer of it; better than unfinished. Next thing I noticed was the somewhat dry/stiff laces which are the typical round, woven, but don't seem like they'll withstand the elements without breaking(like most boot laces). Also the holes, where the laces go through the boot, are just punched holes like with a belt not eyelets, so they drag and have some friction to them. Maybe it'll make for a better tight lacing, but it also adds effort and wear to lacing them up. One disclaimer about the leather itself: BED:STU boasts using organic(naturally tanned) leather so the color consistency and true grain will reflect that. Additionally, there are "no plastic or synthetic coatings" which might be a good heads up when wearing/taking care of these boots. When I first put the boots on, I was sure the single side zipper wasn't' going to be of any use because I had to untie and loosen all laces to slide it on fully. After wearing it for a few hours though and taking it off and putting it back on, the zipper did it's job and made it possible without having to mess with the laces. As far as the fit, it's a narrow boot with a normal, wide in comparison, tip. I felt a little strange at first as it hugged my foot so well and then gave me that extra space and comfort at the front of my foot, but I guess that's helpful in determining the kind of pants to wear with this. The feel of it hugging my foot in the right places and having the more comfortable fit up front was appreciated as my foot technically measures wide(Brannock scale) but I usually only but normal width. Reviewer "CEE" mentioned that sizing was possibly 1/4 size larger and I'd have to say I agree with that. I did have room up front and with the silhouette wanted as little extra as possible, but I don't think I could have gone down 1/2 size without issues. I wear a 9.5(M) in Dockers Boots/Sandals and 10 in Asics, M42 in Vibram FF can't remember any others right now. I purchased 9.5(M) in these BED:STU Patriots and am happy with them. There is a thin plastic or maybe hardened leather structure in the toe cup, where a steel toe usually is, and I only mention it for people that might consider sizing down. I'm not cure if this would cut down into your toes when walking. On my initial try-on of these boots I work them 3 hours just casual walking around and occasional sitting breaks. While the heel and mid foot felt fine, nothing outstanding, the ball of my foot did feel a little sensitivity to the ground, actually harder than my Vibrams FF. I'm not sure if that's a breaking in detail or something I might not notice with continued wear, or a potential issue down the line. The traction on the sole of the boot is 3mm at the end of the front traction(arch)and 1mm on all the rest of the tread/shingles.I guess the bottom line for me was that I did buy my boots on sale and the fit was good, the fashion is nice, and the leather is great. That being said, I'd say they are more of a fashion boot, the laces, the seams, the coarse zipper, thin leather, with no considerable tread I wouldn't make a daily wear out of them unless I was constantly mindful of those facts, and I wouldn't go stomping around in them and treating them like...a boot. The sole, at this point is definitely less comfortable than Dockers boots, Dr Martens, and Bates, but comparable to a dress shoe or maybe something from Aldos.Keep in mind this review is based on first impressions and an initial wear as I just got them today. So some of the variables and concerns might change through further use.

2Ok, but better quality boots to be had for better price
By Bolus of Bees
This is the second Bed:Stu product I've owned, and it pretty much jives with my previous experiences. I got some shoes a while back that fell apart within 9 months, and then I replaced them with the Sketchers "knock off" version. That imitation is still holding up two years later. These boots, I can tell, will be no different. From a distance, they appear to be of much higher quality than one would expect for the price I paid. Upon closer examination, they seem cheap and mass produced. The leather is thin and rigid in a plastic-like way, and the stitching looks like it wouldn't last through a rough winter. I purchased some other boots in the same price range, and they're much better quality. If you're looking for some costume quality boots that you will not wear too often or for anything active, then these might be ok. If you want quality workmanship that will stand up to daily use, look elsewhere.
