I can't say enough good things about these Salomon Snowtrip winter boots. They are incredibly light, very comfortable and keep my feet living room warm and dry, not hot. They perform beautifully whether I'm walking a zero degree Maine beach, snow shoeing in New Hampshire's White Mountains or wearing them for a day of work and a movie. I wear a pair of light hiking socks with them or light athletic socks and they are just right, warm and cozy. If your foot likes the fit and feel of Merrill hikers (a little wider, not narrow like North Face boots), you will love these Salomon Snowtrips. I should buy a second pair as I wear them every day. This is an excellent product.

Since the name of this boot/shoe is Snowtrip, one might be inclined to believe that it is constructed for walking in the snow.Now I've read all of the positive reviews on this site, and after thinking about it, the boot should be called the salomon shovel-for-an-hour-or-two-then-go-inside-and-love-me boot. Because that's all this boot is good for.I am a dogwalker. I spend hours outside in every type of weather condition in New York, and so I've become dependent on footwear that's light, comfortable, form-fitting and in snowy/slushy conditions, WATERPROOF. Regarding comfort, weight, and fit, the boot is fine and performs optimally. The traction is so-so, but that's to be forgiven. What is never to be forgiven is the false advertising of this boot as being waterproof. It simply is NOT waterproof. It is water resistant.Why do products say they're waterproof when they're not? To make more money from you. That's it. Thinsulate and Goretex are the emperor's new clothes; they are merely marketing gimmicks that make you pay more money for a product that will ultimately fail to do what it says it will. I wish I could say there is a technology that is "waterproof and breathable", but I am learning that when it's crunch time and you really need something to keep your feet dry, no such product exists...short of plain old rubber. But back to the boot.Twice now under different snowfall conditions this boot has failed to keep my feet dry. All the comfort and lightness and cool looks in the world mean nothing to a person who gets cold, wet feet. You remember it when you were a kid. It can turn you from a pleasant peter into a a miserable beast. And so I thank Salomon for this bestial review. To Salomon and all of the other products that slap "waterproof" on them to earn an extra buck: shame on you! You should be spanked by your mommies and sent hungry to bed.

These boots are comfortable, very warm and decent looking. I wanted something that I could wear in extreme cold conditions (15°F/-10°C) because I am planing a trip for 2 weeks to Russia in the middle of January. But also something that wouldn't look like hiking boots. These definitely fit the description, and so far they have done a good job keeping my feet dry when walking in the middle of an 18inch snow storm.
